MANILA — The Philippine Army (PA) on Friday rendered a testimonial parade and review honoring outgoing Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff, Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr.

“The Philippine Army honors the invaluable service of its retiring officers who have dedicated their entire lives to serve the people. The testimonial review is a simple gesture when compared to all the sacrifices and hard work they have given in order to achieve the mission of the Army and the AFP as a whole, to bring peace and security in our communities,” Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said in a statement.

The testimonial review, given to retiring general officers in recognition of their illustrious careers and selfless service to the nation, was held at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Madrigal, who is set to retire on September 28 upon turning 56, will be replaced by outgoing Central Command chief, Lt. Gen. Noel Clement.

Army chief, Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto, along with other senior officers, personnel and civilian employees of the PA, joined the ceremony as well.

Madrigal is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1985. He holds a master’s degree in management studies and in public administration.

He also topped his military schooling, such as specialization in intelligence and security, infantry officer advance course, military and peacekeeping operations and rule of law, and the command and general staff course.

During the early years of his career, Madrigal took various leadership roles at the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division in Luzon. Later on, he was assigned at the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division (4ID) and the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division in Mindanao.

Prior to his current post, he was chief of staff of the Philippine Army, and commander of the 4ID, AFP Southern Luzon Command, and AFP Eastern Mindanao Command.
