Mga Kababayan,
The first Golden Balangay Awards GBA) was a huge success when it was launched in conjunction with the Canada 150 celebration in 2017. It was broadcasted on national television and the stories were shared and spread over the internet. GBA was successfully launched as an avenue for achievers to gather, inspire and honor their valuable contributions to the bigger Filipino community and to the Canadian society.
Similarly, on its second year, GBA was attended by Filipino Canadians from various cities and provinces attended the event. More significantly, there was an increased participation and attendance during the awards night.
With the ever-increasing participation of nominees and attendees from various cities, we feel that we have yet to reach more Filipino Canadians across the country. Thus, we have set forth to commence the Golden Balangay’s journey with the ceremonial passing of a boat oar from the current host to the host of the next city. As we return to the city where most of the early Filipino immigrants settled here in Canada, Winnipeg was chosen to be the host of the 2019 Golden Balangay Awards.
In this regard, we would like to invite our kababayan’s to take a look and visit the website and nomination portal at www.goldenbalangayawards.com to nominate your friends, colleagues, classmates, co-worker, family member or even yourself for the categories that fits their/your accomplishments. The prestigious 3rdGolden Balangay Awards presentation and Balangay Ball are set on September 7, 2019. In partnership with World Vision Canada, it will be held at the Winnipeg Arts Gallery. This will be a first of its kind celebration for the Filipino Canadians in the city and the first to be held at Canada’s oldest civic gallery and the 6th largest in the country.
GBA is blessed and thankful for the support of the following – World Vision Canada, WFG by Agnes Miranda, Culture Card Winnipeg, Mabuhay TV, Filipino TV, Awards Online Canada and iKubo Media – as our partners in this endeavor.
We will look forward to your nominations and hope to see you all in Winnipeg!
