Vancouver, BC – S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation’s annual Walk with the Dragon is gearing up for its 31st year at Lumbermen’s Arch, Stanley Park, Vancouver, this coming Sunday, July 17, 2016. The 100-foot-long S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon will again lead over 10,000 walkers to raise $450,000. All proceeds will go to the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Caring for the Community Fund to maintain and enhance services that lack sufficient government funding, especially programs for youth, families, and seniors.

“Although the three-level governments provide funding for our core services, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. also has many programs and services that tailor to the various needs of our community. Thus there remains an urgent need to fundraise for the outstanding balance of our budget,” said Sing Lim Yeo, Chair of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation. “Endeavors such as Walk with the Dragon will ensure those otherwise would be underserved to have access to important programs such as Youth Leadership Millennium Program; Multicultural Early Childhood Development Program (MECD), S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Chinese Help Lines and services provided by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Multi-Level Care Society at Simon K. Y. Lee Seniors Care Home, Chieng’s Adult Day Centre and the two assisted living residences: Harmony House and Austin Harris Residence,” Yeo added.

In 2015-2016, MECD served close to 250 families with over 5,800 touch points provided in support of their efforts to integrate into the community. The Chinese Help Lines, available in Mandarin and Cantonese, handled over 7,000 calls involving 111 specialized volunteers who contributed around 5,400 hours. More than 360 individuals received S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s counselling service through 2,287 interviews. Around 200 youth were served with over 300 sessions delivered. The donation also helped fund exercise equipment, dental clinic and ceiling lifts at the seniors care facilities. S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation has played a crucial role in bridging the gap by investing in value-added programs that are important to the community.

For the first time, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation will host a radiothon in partnership with CHMB AM1320 to help raise funds on Saturday July 16. AM1320 Radiothon runs from 8am to midnight. The audience will hear heartfelt stories and information about the services and programs the public might not be aware. The public are encouraged to call: 604-263-1320 to donate to the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation. On the same day, mall promotion will take place at the Yaoham Centre (3700 No. 3 Road, Richmond) from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

On Sunday, July 17, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Dragon will lead a 7-km excursion around the Stanley Park seawall. This year, a second dragon sponsored by Royal Pacific Reality will lead a 3-km walk along Lost Lagoon for those who would like to spend more time at the main stage. RBC Kids Zone will provide fun sports training games for families with children while Food Zone will feature authentic Hong Kong and Korean street food. The festivities will 1052be kicked off at 8:30am with the eye-dotting ceremony for the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. dragon followed by multicultural performances featuring Japanese, Korean, Philippine, Chinese and Mexican until 2:00pm.

Complimentary shuttle bus services from Vancouver, Richmond and Tri-Cities to Stanley Park will be available for the public. For details, please visit:http://www.successfoundation.ca/walk2016/walkday.php.

“The success of the annual Walk with the Dragon is a collective effort by the community, for the community. We would like to thank those long-time sponsors, e.g. Official T-shirt Sponsor – Concord Pacific Group; VIP Reception Sponsor – Vancity; and Official Airline Sponsor – Air Canada,” said Peggy Chiu, Steven Tang and Johnny Tsang, Co-Chairs of Walk 2016.

Events like S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon would not be as successful as they are without the help of donors. To make a donation to Walk with the Dragon, please visit http://www.successfoundation.ca/walk2016/ or call at: 604-408-7228.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Foundation, incorporated in 2001, is a charitable foundation responsible for raising funds for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and its affiliated organizations to support their mandates for the betterment of the community. For more details, please visit: http://www.successfoundation.ca/.
