MANILA – Philippines’ Hillarie Danielle Parungao secured a Top 10 spot and bagged the “Multimedia” Award in the 2015 Miss World pageant held in Sanya, China on December 19.

Unable to make it to the Top 5, Parungao placed fourth in the “leaderboard” after earning high points from the pageant’s preliminary activities, especially in the “Top Model” and “Beauty With A Purpose” events.

Rounding out the Top 10, the 24-year-old beauty queen maintained the country’s standing in the international pageant. Gwendoline Ruais won first runner-up in 2011; Queneerich Rehman finished in the Top 15 in 2012; Megan Young won the crown in 2013; and Velerie Weigmann figured in the Top 25 last year.

This year’s Miss World title was given to Spain’s Mireia Lalaguna Royo, who also received the “Top Model” Award. It was the country’s first-ever victory in the beauty pageant.

Royo was then followed by Russia’s Sofia Nikitchuck at second place; Indonesia’s Maria Harfanti at third; Jamaica’s Sanetta Myrie at fourth; and Lebanon’s Valerie Abou Chacra who scored a Top 5 finish.

Harfanti was also given the “Beauty With A Purpose” Award, while Guyana’s Lisa Punch topped the Talent competition;  Namibia’s Steffi Van Wyk earned the highest points in the Sports and Fitness challenge; and Vietnam’s Trần Ngọc Lan Khuê received the “People’s Choice” and the “World Fashion Designer Dresses” Awards.

Young hosted the 65th Miss World, along with Tim Vincent and Angela Chow.

Meanwhile, Miss Canada delegate Anastasia Lin, who is Chinese-born, was unable to make it to the coronation night after being barred from entering China, a communist nation, last month allegedly for being an outspoken critic of the Chinese religious policies.
