Fire destroys paper and plastic storage building at Fredericton landfill site
FREDERICTON — Fire officials say a storage building at the Fredericton landfill site has been destroyed by fire.
Insp. Cameron Dunn says the fire broke out just before noon Wednesday.
The building, which contained bales of cardboard, paper and plastic was damaged beyond repair.
Dunn says fire crews from Fredericton, Oromocto and New Maryland had to shuttle water to the scene from the nearest fire hydrant, which was two kilometres away.
He says they are still trying to determine how the fire started, but it appears to be accidental.
Brad Janes, a spokesman for the regional solid waste commission, says workers were able to get out of the building unharmed.
