4 Navy personnel killed, 6 others wounded in Ternate road mishap

MANILA — Four Navy personnel, one of them a civilian employee, was killed while six others were seriously hurt after the M-35 truck they were riding fell into a deep ravine in Kantuba Hill, inside Marine Base Gregorio Lim in Ternate, Cavite Wednesday morning.

Col. Edgard Arevalo, Navy spokesperson, said the incident took place around 9: 30 a.m.

“We mourn the loss of three Philippine Marine Corps personnel and a civilian employe who are all stationed in Marine Base Gregorio Lim in Ternate, Cavite,” he added.

“An M-35 (6×6) truck that went outside camp to do marketing with 10 passengers on board fell into a deep ravine at the vicinity of Kantuba Hill inside the base. The truck was on its way back and negotiating the zig-zag road at around 930 a.m. 05Nov2014 when the accident happen,” Arevalo stressed.

Two enlisted Marines and the civilian employees were killed on the spot while the lone officer was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Naic.

Arevalo said that the six wounded personnel are now being treated at the Station Hospital in Marine Base Gregorio Lim and a civilian hospital in Naic.

They are now in stable condition, he added.

Arevalo said Navy flag-officer-in-command Vice Admiral Jesus Millan and the Marine Corps commandant Major Gen. Romeo Tanalgo have expressed their sincere condolences to the bereaved family.

“While the names are withheld until the next-of-kin were properly informed, they directed the immediate attention for the victims and to extend all support necessary to ensure the welfare of the personnel and/or their families,” the Navy spokesperson said.
