MANILA – Filipino-American Katherine Dela Cruz from California went to the Philippines dreaming of making it to the blind auditions of “The Voice of Philippines.”

Unfortunately, no one turned his chair for the 22-year-old contestant after singing John Legend’s “All of Me.”

But this did not dampen Dela Cruz’s spirit. She asked Lea Salonga if they can do a duet together, to which the latter agreed. They sang “I Still Believe” much to the delight of the audience and the other judges.

Salonga, refused to critique Dela Cruz’s audition, but promised that she will recommend her to the current production of “Miss Saigon” in London.
“Right now, ‘Miss Saigon’ is running in the West End. So what I want to do is… please keep her name because I want to recommend you,” said Salonga.

She added, “This is not a guarantee of anything, not even an audition. But at least I can tell them that I met this girl in the Philippines. She wasn’t right for the show, but I thing she would be right for you. So please, please see her.”

Dela Cruz was stunned with what happened. She quickly ran to her parents and told them that her “ultimate dream” just came true.
