Two telecom big wigs: Smart and Sun Cellular

MANILA — Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) subsidiaries Smart and Sun Cellular have seen a network jump to 18 percent in terms of smartphone ownership in the first quarter of the year as against 10 percent during the same period in 2013.

The telco said the rapid number of smartphone ownership was due to a continuous introduction of high-end and mid-range LTE smartphones with the most attractive postpaid plan offers.

“In the past months, we have seen a spike in the number of our subscriber using smartphones, and we expect this trend continue,” said Kathryn Carag, Postpaid Marketing Head at Smart.

Smart further announces its exclusive availability of the LG G2 Mini LTE, which has been included in the telco’s postpaid portfolio.

“With this new LTE phone offering, more of our subscribers can experience super fast mobile LTE surfing from Smart at a more affordable price point,” Carag said.

The LG G2 Mini LTE offer was said to further expand Smart’s smartphone user base.
