The 2014 Vancouver Sun Run Presented by BlueShore Financial celebrates a couple of significant milestones this year – its 30th event and now its 1,000,000th registrant!

A Sun Run team surprised Corpus Christi elementary school teacher Ivana Ciccone this morning, just as she was taking her student running group for their early morning run in preparation for the big race happening Sunday, April 27.

“We told her she was the 1,000,000th registrant since The Vancouver Sun Run’s inception in 1985 and she was delighted,” stated Patricia Wu, Co-Chair of The Vancouver Sun Run and Manager of Local Marketing for Western Canada for The Vancouver Sun.  “We wanted to do something special to mark the occasion because 1,000,000 registrants is quite an achievement and is symbolic of how much the BC community has embraced The Vancouver Sun Run.”

Ciccone was awarded with a prize package that included a Toshiba flatscreen TV, VIP Sun Run treatment, including a hotel stay at the Hyatt Regency with limo service.  She was also given a Timex watch, some running gear and a special Vancouver Sun Run bib numbered one million to wear on race day.  Photos of today’s surprise presentation can be found at www.facebook.com/VancouverSunRun

To add to the celebration marking the 30th year and the one million registrant, The Vancouver Sun Run will also award a health and wellness package to one other lucky 2014 Sun Run participant.  Anyone who registers or has registered for the race by midnight April 22is automatically entered for a chance to win.  More details can be found at www.vancouversunrun.com.

The Vancouver Sun Run presented by BlueShore Financial takes place Sunday, April 27 at 9:00 a.m.  The 2.5K Shaw Mini Sun Run starts at 8 a.m. The Vancouver Sun Run is Canada’s biggest 10K road race, and ranked as the third largest 10K in North America.  After midnight April 22, registrations are accepted in person only at The Sun Run Fair at BC Place happening Thursday, April 24 from 4pm to 8pm, Friday, April 25, 10am to 7pm and Saturday, April 26, 10am to 5pm.  No race day registration.
