Execution of convicted Filipino drug-smuggler in Indonesia put on hold
MANILA — Indonesia has suspended the death sentence on a Filipino woman who was convicted of drug-smuggling, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
DFA spokesman Charles Jose said the sentence was deferred following the Philippine government’s appeal for review on the case.
“We are seeking a commutation of her sentence to life imprisonment. We are presenting new arguments,” Jose said in a statement.
Jose declined to identify the Filipino convict, but said she traveled to Indonesia as a tourist when she was arrested in April 2010 by authorities for carrying 2.6 kilograms of heroin.
