MANILA, Aug. 8— The Philippines, as chair of this year’s ASEAN Summit, is holding the grand celebration of the 50th anniversary of the regional bloc.
The grand celebration opened Tuesday morning at the Philippine International Convention Center and attended by ASEAN foreign ministers and their spouses, as well as ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh and her wife.
President Rodrigo Duterte is the keynote speaker for the event.
The opening of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN’s grand celebration coincides with the closing ceremony of ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ (AMM) Meeting and Related Meetings.
In his opening statement, Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alan Peter Cayetano emphasized ASEAN’s achievement of ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
