MANILA—AF Payments Inc. has announced that three million beep cards were already sold since it was launched in 2015, amid increasing acceptance of commuters to the tap to pay smartcard.

In a statement, the company said that six out of 10 riders of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) are using the beep card for their commute compared to single journey tickets.

Furthermore, retail store chain Family Mart has been accepting payments through the smart card for its transactions.

“Three million beep cards in circulation is a big milestone for us. It shows that Filipinos are getting used to this technology and are adapting it for their daily use. This pushes us to continue to do better and forge better partnerships that will truly help to serve the needs of our cardholders,” AF Payments spokesperson Tere Ancheta said.

The beep card is a reloadable contactless smartcard and is valid for four years.

Reloading facilities have been set up in select branches of Bayad Center, SM Bills Payment, Villarica, Tambunting, and FamilyMart.

AF Payments Inc. is a consortium of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) and Ayala Corp. that provides contactless payment solutions in the Philippines through its integrated product and service offerings.
