LEEDS, Ont. — One person has died after a crash involving at least 30 vehicles on a highway east of Toronto.

Kingston General Hospital spokeswoman Meagan Quinn says the person died in hospital following the 2 p.m. crash on Highway 401 near Lansdowne, Ont.

She says 28 other people were brought to the hospital after the crash that caused a chemical spill.

Quinn says 13 first responders have undergone decontamination treatment and are being held for observation.

She says the chemical spilled in the crash has been identified as fluorosilicic acid.

Ontario Provincial Police say the pile-up took place in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in poor weather and involved cars and about a dozen transport trucks.
