Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Friday, donned a barong tagalog, Philippine’s national costume, as he toured the “largest Filipino festival in Canada,” and tasted a wide array of Filipino foods at the Taste of Manila festival in Bathurst Street in Toronto, Ontario.

Wearing an apron on top of his barong, Trudeau with MP Marco Mendicino of Eglinton-Lawrence, joined in the fun by grilling some barbecues themselves.

He also shook the hands of the Filipino community present in the festival.

“Serving up a Taste of Manila with Toronto’s Filipino community today. Mabuhay!” Trudeau said.

Taste of Manila is an annual gathering of Filipinos at the ‘Little Manila’ on Bathurst Street corner of Wilson Avenue. It is a free street festival attended by  a large number of Filipinos in celebration of the Filipino culture and cuisine. Since its introduction in 2014, Taste of Manila has been very successful in re-introducing Filipino cuisine to the Filipino-Canadians’ palate.
