MANILA—United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) Presidential bet and Vice President Jejomar C. Binay vowed that he will provide Filipinos a better quality of life.

“Humaharap ako sa inyong muli upang hingin ang inyong suporta sa paglaban ho natin sa kahirapan. Iyang kahirapan, problema noon, problema pa hanggang ngayon,” Binay said in a campaign rally on Wednesday in Tabaco City, Albay which was attended by around 10,000 supporters.

The party earlier held a campaign sortie in Sorsogon City, where 5000 supporters gathered.

Binay said that he will continue nationwide the anti-poverty programs he had started as mayor of Makati.

“Maipagmamalaki ko sa inyo na sa Makati, walang namamatay na mahirap dahil sa sakit at dahil sa kahirapan. Wala po iyon. Iyon po ang aking ipinapangakong gagawin ko sa inyo,” Binay said.

Makati’s social programs, under Binay, resulted in the lowering of the poverty rates in the city. From a poverty incidence of 3.74 percent in 2000, it went down to 0.5 percent by 2012, or 2,000 individuals out of a resident population of 650,000.

He added that human rights, including the dignity of women, will be respected under his administration.

The Vice President added that voters would be sorry if they would vote for another candidate who does not respect human life.

He was joined by UNA senatorial candidates Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, former PNP Special Action Force director Getulio Napeñas Jr., broadcaster Rey Langit, Parañaque councilor Alma Moreno, Sulu Princess Jacel Kiram and labor lawyer Allan Montaño.

Local UNA allies and candidates, led by Sorsogon Governor Raul Lee and Tabaco City mayoralty candidate Noel ‘Noks’ Que welcomed the party in their respective localities.
