MANILA—If elected to the presidency during the May 9 polls, PDP-Laban standard-bearer Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to create a department which will exclusively handle the deployment and affairs of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

He made this vow during the third and last leg of the Presidential Debate which was held in the Phinma University of Pangasinan in Dagupan City on Sunday.

By having this body, Filipino workers abroad will no longer have to go to numerous agencies just to get their documents processed and reducing red tape.

In the same vein, Duterte said he will order all consul generals to be aware of the locations and whereabouts of OFWs in their areas so that when something untoward happens, they can immediately provide help.
