MANILA—For concerns or queries on Election Day, the people were advised to call the Commission on Elections (Comelec) hotline.
Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said the commission en banc has approved the establishment of the Voter Care Centers for the May 9 polls with a budget of Php 2 million.
“The idea is, on Election Day, there will be a hotline for voters to call if they have problems with Comelec personnel sitting there and taking calls and referring them to appropriate persons,” she said.
The undertaking was proposed by the Office of Chairman Juan Andres Bautista.
Guanzon said the hotline would be manned by poll body personnel and supplemented by large TV monitors for efficient supervision.
“The two million pesos budget will be for telecommunication system and the monitors. They want to have monitors large enough to be seen even from afar,” she explained.
On the other hand, Comelec Commissioner Christian Robert Lim was not in favor of the creation of the center as it is a redundant project for the poll body.
“I don’t see any reason to come up with something redundant. It is a waste of money and resources,” he added, noting that they already have the National Technical Support Center (NTSC) and the Command Center.
Lim explained that the NTSC is tasked to accept all automation-related concerns on Election Day while the Command Center will handle other poll-related concerns such as security and logistics, among others.
The said project is just among the innovations pushed by the Comelec, apart from the mall voting project, as well as the transfer of the national canvassing center to the Manila Hotel from the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), which has been dropped.
