Typhoon ‘Nona’ death toll jumps to 36—NDRRMC

MANILA—The official death toll due to typhoon “Nona” has reached 36 as of Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.

In its latest update, NDRRMC said there were five fatalities in Region 2; five in Region 4-A; 13 in Region 4-B; four in Region 5; eight in Region 8; and one in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The agency added that there were 24 injured persons reported in Regions 2, 4-A and 4-B.

The NDRRMC said “Nona” affected 65,318 families or 289,616 people in four cities and 71 municipalities in 14 provinces of Regions 3, 4-A, 4-B, 5 and 8.

Of these, 19,046 families or 87,743 people were accommodated in 367 evacuation centers.

The agency said the total cost of government assistance for the affected families has reached PhP79,132,796.98 worth of relief goods and medicines from the combined resources of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Local Government Units (LGUs) in Regions 3, 4-A, 4-B, 5 and 8.
