Tornado hits 4 villages in Laguna

ALAMINOS, Laguna – A tornado hit the villages of San Ildefonso, Palma, San Miguel and Santa Rosa in this town at 9:45 a.m. Friday that lasted for two minutes in the midst of heavy downpour, destroying 40 houses made of light materials while no person was injured.

In San Ildefonso village, 20 houses were destroyed. Village chief Lorenzo B. Zuñiga Jr. immediately dispatched the Barangay (Village) Emergency Response Team (BERT) to evacuate the affected families.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Ernesto Montecillo, Director Vicente Tomazar of the Office of Civil Defense-Region IV-A (Chairman of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-CALABARZON), and Executive Assistant Rommel Palacol of the Laguna Action Center immediately coordinated to look after the needs of the affected families .

The CALABARZON RDRRDMC provided food packs good for five days and the Provincial SWDO will assist the families under its Shelter Assistance Program.
