MANILA – Former Negros Oriental Representative Jacinto “Jing” Paras, who supported late Fernando Poe Jr.’s presidential candidacy in 2004, allegedly financed the filing fee of the election offense complaint with the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) against Senator Grace Poe.
The complaint, filed by former senatorial candidate Rizalito David, challenged Poe’s nationality and residency. It was, however, not immediately filed before the SET as David did not have enough resources to pay for the P50,000 filing fee. This was when Paras purportedly called David to fund half of the fee’s amount.
“Jing Paras called me and told me that he is contributing P25,000 and requested me to come up with the other half,” Caloocan Representative Edgar Erice said in a Philippine Star report.
“I told him we in the Liberal Party will not do that to Senator Grace because we are courting her to be the vice presidential running mate of (Interior) Secretary Mar Roxas,” Erice added.
Paras, for his part, denied Erice’ statements but admitted questioning Poe’s nationality and residency, especially since she was a potential presidential candidate
