MANILA — President Aquino’s good trust ratings will positively affect his endorsement power in the 2016 elections, according to Malacanang on Sunday.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Aquino’s trust ratings is an indication of the importance of his endorsement in next year’s polls.

Lacierda made the statement following Sen. Sergio Osmena’s claim that Aquino’s endorsement will have a “negligible effect” on the poll ratings of Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.

He defended the President saying that Aquino is different from the former presidents because he has maintained high trust approval ratings even towards the end of his term.

“A cursory look at the surveys—starting from President Cory Aquino up to P-Noy in the same period of their administrations—would reveal that unlike the others, P-Noy has maintained his high approval numbers,” Lacierda said.

“So this is frontier territory and there is the distinct probability that conventional wisdom as espoused by Senator Osmeña may be shattered,” he added.
