MANILA – Top fashion designer and transgender woman Veejay Floresca, among other transgenders and human rights advocates, questioned high-end bar Valkyrie’s ‘no crossdressing policy.’

Floresca was denied access in the bar despite showing her California State ID, indicating her female name and gender preference.

“I was denied twice. They said they have a no-crossdressers policy… I propose they should change the dress code policy,” Floresca said in a Rappler report.

Floresca then called on the high-end club to lift the ban.

“I felt bad not for myself but for other transgender women who don’t have female IDs, who were embarrassed, who felt discriminated,” she said.

Meanwhile, transgender celebrities and rights advocates had also aired their distress in social media regarding Valkyrie’s ‘discriminating’ policy.

“The ‘No Crossdressing Policy’ in any establishment is so THIRD WORLD. If Valkyrie implements this crap, I will pull out my very small share,” TV host Vice Ganda said in Twitter.

“Valkyrie? C’mon. Disrimination of transgenders and ‘cross dressing’ is so 1990s. So Giraffe era,” performing artist and rights activist Carlos Celdran said.

“Denial of entry to any establishment because of one’s gender (or identity in general, for that matter) is very dehumanizing,” trans advocate Janlee Dungca said in her Facebook post.

Valkyrie, for their part, had not yet released an official statement regarding the issue raised.
