MANILA — The Indonesian lawyers of Filipina death convict Mary Jane Veloso are set to meet with the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Veloso was supposed to be executed for drug trafficking in Indonesia on April 29, 2015, but was given a temporary reprieve following the surrender and subsequent arrest of her alleged recruiters Ma. Kristina Sergio and Julius Lacanilao.

According to Atty. Rubyantho, team leader of the Indonesian lawyers of Veloso, they came to Manila to gather additional information on how Mary Jane was victimized from Malaysia in going to Indonesia in 2010.

Rubyantho said they remain optimistic that the Filipina death convict can still be saved from the death row.

He added that they would like to know the true story since Sergio recruited Veloso to work in Malaysia, but ended up with her travel to Indonesia bringing along with her 2.6 kilograms of heroine.

The Indonesian lawyers held a meeting on Tuesday with the members of the Department of Justice-National Bureau of Investigation (DOJ-NBI) Task Force who are focusing on the gathering of evidence in Veloso’s case.
