MANILA — For Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares, President Aquino should sack Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, following another anomaly discovered by the audit commission.

“President Aquino should kick out Secretary Alcala from the DA (Department of Agriculture) and he should be prosecuted for what he has done in his department,” said Colmenares in a statement.

The Commission on Audit (COA) noted on a report released on Tuesday that the department allegedly spent P14.4 billion in 2013 in questionable projects.

The COA said that the department implemented the projects despite violations of laws and regulations.

“President Aquino should also be held to account because Alcala was allowed to wreak havoc on the agriculture sector. Losing P14 billion in highways and bridges that led to nowhere is unacceptable, especially when the government claims to have no funds for health, education and other social services,” said Colmenares.

Alcala is now facing several plunder charges including P457 million in overpriced rice import deal with Vietnam; P75 million in pork barrel funds that he allegedly handed down to  bogus nongovernment organizations during his time as Quezon representative.

He is also facing charges for the P1.07 billion in pork projects coursed through National Agribusiness Corp.
