MANILA — Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said Talk n Text import Ivan Johnson “lacks breeding” after he allegedly bumped the coach on purpose during the Game One of their Commissioner’s Cup Finals showdown Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Well, he did it on purpose. The video showed that he can easily avoid me. It was on my blind side. I guess it’s up for the league to evaluate and assess what needs to be done with that but I’m not surprised because that’s been his reputation,” Guiao said in the post-game interview following a 99-92 loss in the series opener.
“It’s probably a lack of breeding, a lack of respect. That’s one reason he’s out of the NBA, one reason he’s playing overseas, not getting a good reputation and is exactly because of what he does,” Guiao added.
He was surprised that Johnson was only called for a technical foul when he was fined Php 20,000 for nudging his former import Arizona Reid during their elimination game against San Miguel Beer.
“I was surprised it was only a technical. I thought he deserved more than that. He should have been out of the game. I don’t know if my players did that to (Talk n Text) coach Jong (Uichico), I don’t know what the punishment would be. I’m surprised it’s just that way,” Guiao said.
He also added that what Johnson did was very uncalled for.
“I wasn’t berating him or doing anything to upset him. And the other thing is he kept looking at me in the eye and taunting me after he did it,” Guiao said.
“We’ll focus on the game. We’ll focus on what needs to be done. We’ll see what happens with him. It’s still a long series anyway. But I’m expecting the league to do something about it,” Guiao added.
