1 dead, 20 hurt at NBP explosion

MANILA — A grenade exploded at the maximum security compound of the National Bilibid Prison (NBP)in Muntinlupa City Thursday morning, killing a prisoner and wounding at least 19 others.

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Franklin Jesus Bucayu said the grenade explosion at about 9:55 a.m. took place a few minutes before NBP officials were supposed to hold a command conference.

In a text message, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima said that “Investigation is already ongoing to determine the cause. The situation is already under control.”
