Embassy of the Philippines Charge’ d’ Affaires Eric Gerardo Tamayo recently wrote to fellowmen in Canada to enjoin them to vote for Vigan as one of the new seven wonders – cities. Vigan has been selected as one of the top 21 finalists out of 1,200 cities all over the world.
Tamayo said this award is expected to bring economic gains for Vigan in terms of visitor arrivals, employment and business opportunities. “In accordance with our country’s aspirations for more equitable development and inclusive growth, I ask every Filipino in Canada to rally behind Vigan in its quest for global recognition of Vigan’s rich history and culture,” he said in a letter to Filipino community leaders in Canada.
Vigan, the lone candidate from the Philippines, is worthy of our support, according to Tamayo. “We can show this by casting our vote online at www.new7wonders.com and spreading the word to our family members and friends by email or social media,” he added.
In less than three months or until October 7, the shortlist of candidates will be cut further from 21 to 14 and from 14 to seven by December 7.
Tamayo thanked the FilCan leaders for being part of the global campaign.
