MANILA — Should an order be issued calling for the immediate arrest of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that it is looking at the possibility of using two rooms at its General Hospital to serve as detention facility of the elderly legislator.

This option is being looked into in case the Sandiganbayan 3rd Division comes out with an arrest warrant for the lawmaker and task the PNP to act as custodian.

“Senator Enrile is already a senior citizen and we recognize the fact that he has some special needs,” PNP public affairs office chief Reuben Theodore Sindac said.

Of the two rooms being considered, one is equipped with an air-conditioning unit while the other one is not.

Some sectors earlier expressed their concern that the elderly senator might not be able to stand up to the heat being experienced by his two colleagues, Senators Ramon Revilla Jr., and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, who are now the PNP Custodial Center for graft charges.

“As you can see, we cannot decide which room would be designated because the decision rest with the Sandiganbayan,” Sindac stressed.
